We view ocular hygiene to be just as important as dental hygiene.

How eye hygiene affects your everyday life

When it comes to maintaining your eye hygiene, the trick is to be consistent. Issues like meibomian gland dysfunction and blepharitis can develop if you don’t regularly clean the edges of your eyelid, so having a healthy eye hygiene routine can make a world of difference in your eye comfort.

If you struggle with maintaining your eye hygiene, you may start to develop swollen, red eyelids, red eyes, or bacterial infections that can result in conjunctivitis and styes.

Great eye hygiene starts with developing a proper routine. We always recommend visiting our team at BRIGHT Eyes before starting a regular routine—we can help determine which products may be best for managing your unique situation.

We also offer several different treatments that can be performed in-office. Find out how we can best serve your eyes when you book your appointment today.

Ocular Hygiene Services

  • Zocular ZEST + NuLids Deep Cleansing

Zocular is a leading eyelid hygiene brand that focuses on cleaning away dirt, debris, and bacteria located around the eyelid margins. By using ZEST (Zocular Eyelid System Treatment), their in-office treatment that utilizes a surprisingly effective ingredient known as okra, we can remove irritants. For an even deeper clean, we pair ZEST with NuLids, a device that gently exfoliates the eyelids to restore their natural state.

This cleansing treatment is recommended for patients suffering from blepharitis, demodex, or eye allergies, as well as all makeup wearers and lash extension wearers (to be performed in-between new sets).

  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

OptiLight IPL therapy is one of the most common tools we use to provide spa-like treatments for dry eye and maintain your skin’s health and look. IPL therapy is a powerful treatment for improving eyelid hygiene and managing conditions like blepharitis, Demodex mites, and meibomian gland dysfunction. IPL uses light pulses to reduce inflammation, kill harmful bacteria, and treat mite infestations, all while unclogging meibomian glands to improve tear quality. It is especially effective for patients with rosacea-related eye issues or chronic eyelid irritation. Regular IPL sessions can lead to healthier, more comfortable eyes and long-term relief from dryness and inflammation.

  • Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT)

Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) is a non-invasive treatment that improves eyelid hygiene by targeting bacteria and inflammation. This innovative therapy uses gentle colored lights to stimulate circulation and clear clogged meibomian glands, as well as eradicate bacterial involvement in blepharitis and Demodex mite infestations. By reducing harmful bacteria and supporting natural healing, LLLT can enhance tear production and soothe dry, irritated, or inflamed eyes. Regular treatments promote healthier eyelids, better tear film quality, and lasting comfort.
